I am not sure that the City or Billings even has a health department that is active watching many of these restaurants in this town! One really nasty place I have visited is HOKKAIDO RAMEN & SUSHI, 1001 Shilo – Crossing, Billings, Montana 406-371-5118. I will admit, I have eaten here a few times and it literally just gets worse each time I visit.
If Mr. Clean, should ever show up at this ‘Sushi Joint’ he could live at this place permanently. The menus are always dirty bordering on disgusting, and the place has a odd odor, as if it has never been totally cleaned appropriately, grunge lives here. It is a Japanese restaurant that is owned by a Chinese National and it appears that ‘English’ is not easily understood. Making mention is returned with a blank stare and little or no acknowledgment as to what I am complaining about.
Unfortunately, it would appear making the maximum of money is job one. The food that is served is as questionable as any place, I have ever eaten. My son and I while on assignment got better sushi in Copenhagen! It was not the greatest either, but at least it was prepared by a Japanese national operating out of Copenhagen! Beside the little tiny “California Rolls” that have the appearance of cigars and not a traditional looking sushi roll. I have actually asked MK the waiter, how the hell have they mastered making such tiny sushi rolls and charging as if they were a traditional roll?
“None of this is inexpensive,” owner back in March 26, 2021 Tom Cai stated in an interview. Attention to detail and not cutting any corners is what Cai Believes will lead this Montana based Ramen shop to success. How do you say BULLSHIT in Japanese or Chinese?
MK, my waiter just laughs and tells me to complain, knowing the Chinese guy making them and the Chinese gal that owns the place don’t understand English so well. I will often order the appetizer of tempura that has a few pieces of vegetables and there was 2 pieces of shrimp. Those shrimps are now half the size they were the last time we visited, $8.00, upon showing it to my waiter he just smiled at us.
We understand that this is a franchise operation and that the goal is to make money first and serve what is mediocre Sushi second. If you are curious what this is called in America is pretty simple, ripping me off as a consumer. Congratulations for a job well done!
