Robert A. Jakucs – Retired Det. L.A.P.D
Robert A. Jakucs is a retired Los Angeles Police Department Detective with over 30-years of investigative experience. During his distinguished career with the L.A.P.D he worked such high-profile assignments as Homicide, Hollywood Vice, SWAT, Robberies, Burglaries, Complex Thefts, and gang-related shootings. He was a member of the Night Stalker Task Force that investigated the serial murderer Richard Ramirez. Robert Jakucs is also a consultant for national television specializing in private and police investigation issues and has appeared on the news shows Nightline, 20/20 and Inside Edition.

William Cox was a Los Angeles Police Detective who retired in 2007 after 32 years
William Cox worked in a variety of assignments including uniformed patrol, CRASH (gang detail) in South-Central and West Los Angeles areas. He also worked homicides for over 20 years and finished his career in Robbery-Homicide Division (RHD) which handles major cases including serial killers, multiple murders, media and high-profile cases, officer-involved shootings, and assaults and murders on police officers. He also worked the Rampart Corruption Task Force for two years. William Cox was also involved or handled several high-profile cases over the years including the Kimes (mother-son grifters who were responsible for 3 murders in LA, NY, and the Bahamas); the Goetz of the West case; the murder of the pregnant mother at LAX; plus several others.

William Cox has appeared on Investigative Discovery channel, 48 Hours, and E-entertainment. He is currently employed by the US State Dept. as a background investigator.

William Cox’s last case he worked on at RHD was a Chinese immigrant student attending USC who had gone to a frat party and had attempted to pull a gun and start shooting students. He was wrestled to the ground by other students who then called police. After a search warrant was served on the suspect’s apartment Cox and three other detectives were sent to NY City to investigate and attempt to identify approximately 20 persons he had targeted to possibly kill. (This incident occurred shortly after the mass murders at West Virginia Tech.) Cox was also working on a murder where a husband set his car and wife on fire on the Golden State Frwy. Cox had also been working (for the past four years) on a double homicide that had occurred in 2002 wherein two victims were killed in their car and their car set on fire. That murder was the story that 48 Hours has done and shown on television in February 2011.

I was told by a good friend that January is for DIVORCE lawyers what April is for ACCOUNTANTS. I asked why and I was told that it is all about the gifts, bad gifts tend to be the last straw in bad marriages…”someone go to DESPERATEXES.com and find me a DIVORCE lawyer!”

What once famous lawyer attempted to record a supervising judge in his chambers and was discovered when the tape ended and began to beep? Can you imagine? Poor fellow should have gotten some advice from his very good “friend”…sure the one that is doing years in Federal Prison for “tap tap tapping away.”

Rumor has it that Hillary Slevin, formerly of Trope and Trope is moving on. Sources tell us at DESPERATEEXES.com that Ms. Slevin is joining up with one Bret Hunter, also a one time associate of Trope and Trope. We here at DESPERATEEXES.com wish Ms. Slevin all the best.

All pregnant mommies need some time to prepare for the big day and we are told one of the associates at Trope and Trope will also be taking some time off. The question is will she be back? The word around the law library is “don’t bet on it.” Babies need attention and highly respected DIVORCE lawyers need to keep priorities in line. Was that a “former” partner moving on down the line we saw in Beverly Hills? Levin Margolin is just that, it appears Itzkowitz has moved on. Harris – Ginsberg is looking like the place the boxes are being unloaded at. From partner to associate? Harris – Ginsberg is a nicely run firm. We at DESPERATEXES.com seldom if ever hear of this firm, Larry Ginsberg I see often around the court house. Unlike some partners he is always well dressed and pleasant.

Well-placed sources are telling us that something may be cooking with Pellicano and a potential book or movie??? Michael Viner was bumping around years ago claiming a “book” or something interesting was in the works between him and Pellicano. Viner died August 8, 2009, a miserable death, somewhat fitting I guess, after all he was “Michael Viner.” Funny little side story, I met Michael Viner at his home one day years ago as I told him to leave. I was tossing Mr. Viner out of his own home for being an annoyance, he was “cooperative,” what choice did he have, none!

DESPERATEEXES.COM EXCLUSIVE!!! Anthony Pellicano has filed for divorce from his wife Kat Pellicano. The two were together for well over 25 years. Mr. Pellicano is represented by Robert J. Nachshin,Lawyer, Mr. Nachshin has been in the trenches of divorce for many years here in Southern California, handling many high profile clients. Anthony once again could have picked several lawyers to represent him and chose Mr. Nachshin’s office…smart! (I am sure some of those lawyers are trying to forget Mr. Pellicano ever existed, but he did, and these very same lawyers will forever be connected to him…and we all know who you are.)

Anthony Pellicano, of course famous for his ability to gather information through the tapping of telephones, is serving far more years in a Federal Prison than I am sure he ever expected. Anthony was given an additional 15 years on top of what he was serving for a previous conviction. I believe that much of that sentence was do to his insistence on representing himself. A bigger issue was his refusal to ever roll over on any of the lawyers that he worked with and tapped for. Here at DESPERATEEXES.COM we call them “Very Very Very Lucky” lawyers. And you all know who you are as I am sure the feds also know, and lots of others know, and on and on it goes.

Had Anthony decided to save his own ass, he could have been a free man, and the Beverly Hills Bar Association would have had a dozen or so less lawyers in its ranks. That never happened due in part to Mr. Pellicano keeping his mouth shut and losing his freedom and everything else he owned. That I am sure brings pleasure to many of his victims, at some point you have to let the hate go and move on.

“Summing up, the prosecuting attorney stated that he chose to attack the supply rather than the demand, the way that vice investigators attack pimps and prostitutes rather than johns, because “that’s how you make a dent in it.” The johns in this case were the likes of Bert Fields, Brad Grey, Ron Meyer, Michael Ovitz and Chris Rock, all of whom paid Pellicano for services rendered.

“If the government has no plans to go higher than Pellicano, this is a depressingly pedestrian effort that shows a lack of ambition,” commented John C. Coffee, a professor at Columbia Law School and an expert on white-collar crime, as quoted in the NY Times story on the verdict.”

This paragraph was taken from Mr. Pellicano’s Wikipedia page and I very much agree with almost all of it. Pellicano could have had some of the most powerful lawyers and entertainment execs in Federal Prison had he chosen to talk…as if it was not bad enough, I am sure that proctologists in Beverly Hills were busy for weeks trying to relax some of these assholes’ “Proktos!”

As for Anthony’s wife, Kat, I had the opportunity to speak to her a couple of times and what a class act. She was just one of the nicest people and at times you had to recall that old adage, “opposites attract.“ As to his family that is private and will never be mentioned here on DESPERATEEXES.COM…none of my business. We do not know at this time who will represent her in these proceedings, my suggestions, lets see, Ira Friedman of Friedman & Friedman, Michael Trope of Trope and Decarolis, Judith Forman of Law Offices of Judith Forman, Grace Jamra of Jamra & Jamra, Roz Soudry, Law Offices of Roslyn Soudry…just a few that I think that would get through this without the usual slaughter of finances.

For us here at DESPERATEEXES.COM and for myself I hope that this goes in a direction of reasonableness and that both these people get the time to move on with their lives. Mr. Pellicano has plenty of time as well as Robert Nachshin to handle this in a sensitive and delicate manner. It is my hope that Mrs. Pellicano will find her own peace and a counterpart to take care of the closing of another chapter in her life.

I wish them both Peace and a better future.

PS…I would love to have that Pelican that sat in the offices on Sunset Boulevard….

Recently I was interviewed and photgraphed for the magazine Der Spiegel, which is like the German equivalent of Time or Newsweek. The article, about Pellicano and Hollywood paranoia, just came out in their English-language online version:

“There are some very despicable people and there’s a whole lot of unhappy millionaires,” says John Nazarian, a colleague of Pellicano’s who has been a detective in Hollywood for the past 17 years. “Their behavior, their sense of entitlement is despicable. They don’t pay me the money they pay me — $400 per hour — to play fair…”

Once again for whatever reason we are getting called in to verify what some idiot with a P.I. license did, and that is a “sweep.” This is when someone thinks that their home or auto has been tampered with and there is a tracking device or some device in place to listen to conversations. I will give an excellent example later as to why this very popular “Dog and Pony” show is for the most part ridiculous and should be avoided.

First, the nitwit P.I. or Security Expert shows up with a fancy case, holding “the equipment,” and as he unpacks this garbage at some point you may see lights flashing and electronic noises…forget about it. Nazarian and Associates has been looking for and finding planted recorders and tracking devices for years. And if it is there we will more likely find it and it will not be with any of these silly adult toys! We do it the old fashion way, step by step and little by little we search and look, and above all we use common sense. For sure it is not cheap and solving tough problems should not be cheap…this is a serious issue and takes time and the right people to look for it…assuming it exists.

Remember this, if, and I say if, if your home has been “wired” and done right, you will never find it. One great example is this, taken from the Pellicano trial:

“Mr. Nagler, concerned that Mr. Pellicano might have wiretapped Sly, had all the phones in the Stallone house swept. But as all good Pellicano watchers know by now, Mr. Pellicano didn’t wiretap phones in the house. (Just ask Gavin DeBeker who had Gary Shandling’s house swept.) The sweeping didn’t turn up anything because the wiretap–if there was one–was in the phone box where nobody bothered to sweep.” This is an extreme case and there was no one better than Anthony Pellicano, and he is tied up for several years in Federal Custody. And it is also my opinion that there is no one doing this with the panache that Anthony and his crew could, if you define panache as having crooked insiders with the police and phone company, in addition to technical wizardry. Once again, there was the sweeper dog and pony show and everyone went to bed thinking, “good, this is all behind us” when in fact it was not.

Nazarian and Associates has never had a client compromised by any electronic shenanigans once we were informed that a potential problem was possible, never, not once. Why you ask, simple, we take steps that make it almost impossible for anyone to get your calls, emails, and for that matter anything else. Am I going to tell you how we do that, no, of course not, that is after all how I keep my Bentley and Rolls filled with gas.

The bottom line is this, be aware of your home and who is coming and going. If you are wealthy and your soon to be X-husband has the financial resources to mess with you, keep that in mind too. So when the guy in the nice sports coat and slacks comes into your home and says that he is the “plumber,” laugh at him and call the police, that is not the “plumber” you had in mind!

Michael Trope has hit the grand slam home run of Family Law. He hit the ball right out of the park with the bases loaded for his client, Lisa Kerkorian. We at DesperateExes.com are betting that this is one of the biggest if not THE biggest child support wins in the history of divorce in the United States of America. As many of you will remember, Lisa Kerkorian was almost like the Rodney Dangerfield of DesperateExes, this was bad for her and so many people had stuck a fork in her and decided that she was done…but Lisa K is no fool, she reached out and picked a winner, Michael Trope, of Trope and DeCarolis.

Michael Trope not only negotiated this incredible win — $100,000 a month until her daughter is of a certain age and no longer living at home, when it drops back to a mere $50,000/mo — but folks wait till you hear this number: $10,250,000.00 in retroactive child support for Lisa Da K going back to 2002! There is no other lawyer in the United States that could have put a deal like this together, none. Millions in “retroactive child support”??? Who has ever heard of a number like this? $10,250,000 in retro what? Ms. Kerkorian has had a lot of lawyers in the past years and most fell flat on their faces when it came to getting her the real “Cha Ching.” Sure, they got paid barrels full of money, however Lisa got the short end of the stick each and every time, can you say “vindicated?” Whoever found Michael Trope for Ms. Kerkorian should be awarded a trip around the world, all expenses paid!!! Or a Rolex, “The Yacht-Master II” blue bezel and white face, that is a 43mm case, very nice! This is as big as it is going to ever get in the world of divorce aka Family Law and it was Michael Trope leading the charge through all the previous wreckage, the work of all of the other lawyers.

Folks there is always a backside to these stories and this one is no different. It was back in 12.1.2008 when Michael Trope presented his “Motion to set aside” all the nasty stuff that victimized Lisa Kerkorian. As some of you will remember when she had Kolodny and Anteau as her lawyers pretty much all of what she said on the phone was being shared with Kirk Kerkorian’s lawyer Christensen and only god and Anthony Pellicano know who else through wiretaps, and we all remember what a nasty bit of business that was and Terry Christensen lost his ability to practice law…disbarred.

Well read this:

1. Lisa did not get a fair trial in 2002 because her lawyers were compromised with wire taps….and that is not fair and not legal, just ask poor Terry Christensen.

2. Michael Trope was asking that everything be set aside as it was an “unfair” trial. And this was the only reasonable thing the court could do…a great position to take.

3. All previous evidence would have to be purged, tossed, thrown out, dumped…why? It was all obtained through illegal conduct…makes sense…”hello is that you?”

4. And that if the trial was to go forward, the Kirk Kerkorian crew would not be allowed to present any new evidence and all of the other stuff would be tossed…so no evidence would be presented…interesting thought.

5. And that Lisa Kerkorian be granted a default of $323,000.00 a month, all the way back to January 2002…cha ching! Not a big cha ching, but a cha ching!

Now if the judge would go along with that program, lets do the math, $323,000 minus the $50,000 a month brings us working class fools to $277,000 a month x 102 months for a grand total of $28,254,000. Now that is some exposure, and I am not talking warm and fuzzy kind for Mr. Kerkorian!

Now, for the big turn, a change of direction, we got a fresh attitude. I wrote on May 12, 2010 that the Judge orders lotsa bacon for Lisa Da K lawyers.” That day, it is my opinion that Joe Mannis, not being anyone’s fool saw what the exposure could be for his client and began to chart a new course. The actions and comments that day by Judge Steinberg made it clear that it was not going to be business as usual when it came to Lisa Kerkorian and her lawyer, Michael Trope. The other side representing Kirk Kerkorian had committed serious crimes and this Judge was not going to be ignoring the behavior. In many ways it was as if Michael Trope had slapped lipstick on a pig and someone on the other side of the table walked out of the courthouse with lipstick on their collar.

The deal has been floating around it looks like since July 8, 2010, my birthday! The agreement was finalized and signed just today, October 22, 2010. Representing Mr. Kirk Kerkorian is none other than one of the biggest hitters in family law, Joe Mannis. When it comes to seasoned lawyers talk to Joe Mannis. Keep in mind, Mannis represented one of the richest men in the world on this divorce/support issue. Talk about Titans of DIVORCE, here you have two of the best in the game, Michael Trope and Joe Mannis!

In closing, this was some of the best big gun lawyering in Family Law court this year, Michael Trope for Lisa Kerkorian and Joe Mannis for Kirk Kerkorian. Joe Mannis heard the court and made all of the right decisions and in doing so, clearly in my opinion saved his client millions of dollars. And for Michael Trope, need I remind everyone that before becoming a lawyer, he was one of the biggest sports agents in the country…”The Art of Negotiating” is alive and well at Trope and DeCarolis.

There are times when rich people just amaze me, and Frank and Jamie McCourt are very, very rich and they amaze me. So rich, in fact, that had this once happy couple remained in Massachusetts, none of this would be an issue (however, some have come forward and said that at this point in time this is not true anymore…since their marriage, laws there have also changed to enhance the lives of lawyers and investigators). It has to be tough on both of them to have all of their private business out in the public forums for crazy people to be making comments about. This is a financial empire few can even grasp, including myself, and I have an accounting background…we’re talking BIG MONEY. Jamie always looks great and dresses the part very well, great hair; Frank too, he is always dressed well and appears to try and be friendly to people who catch his eye…rich does not mean they have no feelings, but money and divorce brings out the worst in people and not just for the two getting divorced.

Judge Scott Gordon was on top of what he had to deal with in making decisions. I heard a few lawyers commenting amongst themselves that Judge Gordon was “right on point.” I like the bigger digs in Dept. 4, very nice and it fits Judge Gordon well. His clerks and Bailiff also look comfortable, plenty of room. And two big doors, one to enter and one to leave, very judicial! This could go down as one of the biggest divorces in U.S. history, and we have people like Sorrell Trope representing Frank McCourt. There are several other lawyers representing Jamie McCourt. Hey, I even saw Dennis Wasser and I heard that Bert Fields was involved in this case (money money money), LMAO…no kidding, I was wondering if either of them miss Anthony Pellicano…you know, Anthony and his “great talent” or was it a “special talent,” whatever…Ahhhh the good old days! But what the hell, it would appear that these two lawyers are doing just fine, and I have to say, Wasser does have a way with words and the way he crosses, it reminds me of a rusty scalpel. I will say this though, Wasser and Fields have to be two of the luckiest lawyers in the world!

It does seem to me, having sat and listened to the witnesses and the lawyers, that there were concerns of creditors having to be dealt with in the event of a “failure.“ And Jamie wanted to be sure that she was protected in case her “Money,” oops I meant to say “Honey” screwed things up and went broke. Well the rich never go broke like you or I could go broke, they even do that differently. My opinion is simple, Frank McCourt is one smart guy, some have thought of him as a “genius.” The Los Angeles Dodgers are 650 million in debt, give or take a few million. The franchise is worth about 800 million and in a couple of more years Mr. McCourt will be a free agent, that being he will be free from FOX Sports and will be rewriting his television contracts. When it comes to making money, New York Yankees are and will always be number one…guess who number two is, Yup! Los Angeles Dodgers, and Frank McCourt had some good people on board and took the risk, and now his entire financial history is out there for people to stand with their mouths agape and in total wonderment at how he did it. How he did it could be a book and a movie that I would pay to see.

We now have former longtime Dodgers owner Peter O’Malley, who is 72 years old, quacking, dam it there I go again…I meant to say “waking up”…and saying things like “the current Dodger ownership has lost all credibility throughout the city.” What? this is a DIVORCE case, and by the mere terms of the word makes it nasty, and due to the times, way too public! Also Mr. O’Malley, what are you talking about? Credibility? It is a baseball team and has gotten millions of dollars of publicity, the McCourts are not criminals and are not bad people, for the reason they have made very clear, they have a great deal lot of money and in the early days were trying to protect themselves, is this not the American way? Hell it is as American as baseball I say! Mr. O’Malley, you too had a great deal of money and lived and worked in a day that protected your privacy and your business, that is gone in today’s world.

Mr. O’Malley went on to comment that he would like to see the team “owned by a small but diverse group of Los Angeles people who understand the culture of the organization and the importance of the Dodgers in this city.” What? Diverse group? Oh sure, that would work just fine, and once again we would have lots of litigation would we not when one of the “diverse group” did not like their seats or parking arrangements.

The best was O’Malley said the issue is not whether the team is sole or community property, but how the McCourts “have used the Dodgers.” Hello Mr. O’Malley, it was Frank McCourt’s business to do with what he felt was right, he bought and paid for it, once again is it not the American way? Mr. O’Malley, write your memoirs and try and get a book deal together and keep away from the press, your comments come across like you have too many fruitloops in your coconuts! Or go back to sleep…but don’t forget to wake up!

Admittedly, the drugs that I have received during my visits to hospitals for procedures are just fabulous, just nothing less than wonderful! From the moment they shoot it into my IV and and into the vein, I get the “feeling” all I can say is wonderful. It makes me understand how people can become addicted to that feeling. And it makes me wonder if body builders and lawyers cannot get hooked on a similar high? A high that comes from illegal shenanigans and unfair advantage.

Body builders are an interesting group when it comes to working out. Nothing better than becoming big and pumped by just good old fashion hard work, hitting the iron, rest and eating right, Spartan Style! And then, someone suggests steroids and the tough workout shows even bigger results, but often a little strange to look at, and at a steep price in other areas. The slow and easy method is cool and a guy can look great and natural and have a complete set of testicles. Unlike some of these monsters we see, one cannot help but notice that “the package” is small, I am just saying. Doctors say that “roids” can cause the testicles to shrink and have other adverse affects on the internal organs…but to many who become addicted to bigger and bigger muscles, it is worth the sacrifice…go figure.

Sitting with a good friend a few weeks ago at a Dodgers game, we discussed another interesting addiction, wiretapping, and what it has done to several people who practice law and their reputations. What it must have been like to be a big rich celebrity divorce lawyer and know that you used the services of Mr. Pellicano, yes we all know who you are and what you did! How does it make one feel to walk the halls of the courthouse and to know that judges and even your “pals” know you cheated? Or that miserable old rat bastard litigator who could do no wrong and seemed to always be winning. Sure they seemed to know everything, almost to the point of what you were thinking!

Funny, if you discussed it on the phone these SOB’s with big fancy offices and state bar cards knew exactly what you were thinking and what you were going to do in court the next day or the next month. I actually spoke to several lawyers who knew something was “not right” and some who questioned themselves — were they even good at practicing law anymore?! How could they win against such freakish, superlawyer abilities? Now with the exception of Terry Christensen all of them got away with their illegal activity, but Terry got screwed. I would not have felt this way if all had gone down, but it did not happen that way, just Terry. Now for $400 per hour my clients want creativity and god knows I try. Well it was smackdowns and laughs in Department 2 this morning at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse. Real funny for some and real sad for others. Department 2 is the domain of Judge Steinberg and the judge was sticking with her “tentative”..$489,254.05. Yup, she did it and this was an interim fee award without prejudice to request MORE!!!!! More??!! this judge got it and understood clearly what was being done in her court and did the right thing! And you know, the rich are different and should pay when they can to “keep the monkeys dancing.”

Who might you ask were the actors in this divorce drama???? Lisa Kerkorian was in court today with her lawyers, Michael Trope and his partner Patrick DeCarolis, it was strange, these two divorce titans said pretty much nothing…almost church-like! Their paperwork was submitted and there they sat waiting for a decision from Judge Steinberg. NOW, on the other side representing the 41st richest man in the world were Joe Mannis and Robert Kipper, who might you ask is their client? None other than Kirk Kerkorian, who is a very rich old fellow, born in Fresno on June 6, 1917. (I had the chance to meet him for a few seconds during his appearance in Federal Court in defense of his former lawyer and good friend, Terry Christensen. If I were Mr. Mannis I would hope that Mr. Kerkorian does not have the volume turned up on his hearing aid when his assistant tells him that he got hammered in Los Angeles this morning…then again one must reflect that you cannot take all that money with you. And I have to wonder, would it not be just as easy to just settle with Lisa Kerkorian and put this whole nasty bit of public chatter to bed?
