Straight Talk with Celebrity P. I. John J. Nazarian’s guests tonight at 7 PM PST – 10 PM PST are Attorney Jeffrey Sklan and forensic psychologist Dr. Glenn Lipson.

Hollywood divorce & criminal lawyer, Jeffrey Sklan termed the saying; “SUDDEN INCOME DEFICIT SYNDROME”. Sklan is also a criminal attorney and often in a divorce suit he will have lawyers refer clients to him because of allegations of domestic violence.

John Nazarian specializes in assets that seem to disappear right before a divorce or during the divorce.

Dr. Lipson is Program Director as well as Associate Professor of the Forensic Psychology Program at Alliant International University, San Diego Campus. A Diplomate in forensic psychology he has evaluated victims, perpetrators and has been retained in suits involving clergy, youth organization and internet exploitation. He has appeared in an Expert capacity on local media outlets, Court TV/Sessions and the Verdict with Paula Todd. Dr. Lipson has worked with HBO and the Discovery channel. As a Diplomate in Forensic Psychology he has testified in homicide, sexual assault and other high profile cases.

Dr. Lipson is often called in to conduct tests and interviews to produce a forensic psychological report of the court.

The subject tonight is the high profile divorces of the rich, famous and powerful. Between the three of these men for one hour of their combined time would cost over $2,000.00.

All three of them also operate in the world of domestic violence. Sklan often has other divorce attorneys refer clients to him involving allegations of domestic violence, to prove it or to defend the charges. John provides security & investigative services to prove or defend charges. John also at times goes along for a “supervised visit involving court appointed monitors”, to assess if they are remaining neutral in the process.

This is your chance to ask this group of experts the questions you have. Is the domestic violence allegations true, or are they an attempt to manipulate a court for an upper hand in the proceedings?

From now until tonight at 6 PM PST you will be able to ask questions you want answer on three websites, here by sending an email to John, Desperate Exes.com & Rose Speaks.com by leaving comments or sending emails to either site or you can call in during the show to ask these questions.

You get them free ONLY for tonight to submit your questions or to call in.

Join us tonight for this top panel of experts and call in and be part of the discussion. Comment telephone lines are always open to call in throughout the one hour show at 818-572-8030 (long distance charges do apply). We encourage you join in the discussion.

Judge Willet settles in at Stanley Mosk

Judge Robert E. WillettGo to Central Casting and tell them, “I need someone who looks like a judge, and he needs to look elderly.” Guess what? the guy you are looking for is in Dept. 43 down at the “Stanley.” Over the last few weeks I have heard different opinions on the “new” judge that took Judge Rafael Ongkeko’s place. Being perfectly honest here folks, Judge Ongkeko was not the most popular judge among the city’s divorce lawyers. Many — not all — would pass on having Ongkeko hear a case. Judge Ongkeko had a personality that was a little tough to understand, I have had that very same problem over the years. Should I say that maybe criminal courts in Van Nuys might be more fertile ground for his style and warm personality…just a suggestion (this was the judge that Mel Gibson’s legal team got booted from his case. Under California law, lawyers have 10 days from the filing date to apply for a different judge).

Back to Judge Robert E. Willett, a former litigator for over thirty years with the firm of O’Melveney. Pretty much right out of Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law (1974) he went to work with O’Melveney and remained there up until his appointment by former Governor Schwarzenegger in 2010 to the Superior Court bench. Now I am just guessing that this had to be a BIG pay cut for Judge Willett. For any lawyer to become a judge it is almost a crowning point, the icing on the cake and again, Judge Willett was not making minimum wage as a 30 year litigatior with a firm like O’Melveney (sounds like a good name for a cookie). So let’s not do any fund-raising for the good judge, now some judges who had other positions and not with big firms or founding partners, them maybe.

I spoke to several lawyers prior to visiting Dept. 43 and having a seat. Some that I spoke to had a wait-and-see attitude except for Patrick DeCarolis of Trope and Decarolis. Patrick told me that he got a sense of “quiet power“ and furthermore to make his point even more clearly, “I like him.” Well I sat in the front row as I often do and watched and listened as a group of four lawyers attempted to practice law. I immediately saw what Mr. DeCarolis had mentioned, “quiet power,” Judge Willett is not going to wring his hands and I don’t see him sitting on his hands and rocking either, he has been around and in far more difficult positions as a litigator than he will be in the position he holds now. My point is that I think we have a new judge who once he gets his footing is going to be one of our favorites at DesperateExes.com.

Sure he has that smile and glint in his eye, more likely he has that even when he is pissed, you know what I mean? And it is going to be the job of any lawyer in front of Judge Willett to figure out — is he smiling because I am doing a good job or is he thinking, “moron”! To me that is the best part of Judge Robert E. Willett.

Welcome Judge Willett to the “Stanley” from all of us at DesperateExes.com

Mail Call: “Special Masters”

Posted by admin  Published in Children, Custody, Mail Call, Mediators

mail

We love getting “letters” here at DesperateExes.com, and this one was right on the money:

Dear John,

I recently became of a fan of Desperate Ex’s after reading “730 Evaluation”: a joke with no laughs, which inspired me to read more of your opinions and comments. Two months ago, my 9-month long “forensic” custody evaluation was finally produced. Besides the fact that this report lacks any evidence of forensic investigation, it is one horriffic mess. The custody evaluator recommended that parties hire a parenting coordinator, or “special master”, and of course the person he recommended is none other than his good buddy. My point is that the raping of litigants goes beyond the custody evaluation.

The Court rejected its’ appointed 730 evaluator’s opinions, but yet the Court is pressuring parties to stipulate to the special master recommended by the 730 evaluator.

This email is not intended to detail the corruption occuring here in Orange County, California, but rather to raise awareness of the many different levels of “forensic experts” who can and will become involved in a custody case when litigants have enough money.

I would love to hear your comments about special masters/parenting coordinators.

Name withheld

A Courtin’ We Go to Van Nuys

Posted by admin  Published in Judges, Lawyers, Mediators, Uncategorized

Van Nuys court “the Valley,” was my destination yesterday, and several of the big players were there: Doreen Olson, lawyer and partner of Meyer, Olson & Lowy; she had with her Erica Swensen, lawyer (Erica is tall, striking, always looks great and is a very attractive woman), Ros Soudry, lawyer and her associate, Monique. Monique is a lawyer in Ros’s office…and her daughter! How cool is that….another great looking young lady…..smart and gorgeous!
And there was my little buddy, small but mighty, Elyse Margolin, lawyer and she and Doreen Olson were giving their clients their money’s worth. The two of them would not let up and in the end it was “see ya” Van Nuys and “hello” Dept. 6, Stanley Mosk. Once again, watching lawyers like Elyse Margolin or Lisa Meyer, seldom am I disappointed to see these two “represent”… one word, RELENTLESS!

Commissioner Steph Padilla has finally landed in a real courtroom. That closet they had her in at Stanley Mosk was a killer, not even the seats were attached firmly to the floor in that “room.” I swear it had to be a janitor’s closet in years gone by. It was great to see Commissioner Padilla’s new courtroom, well lit, lots of comfortable chairs and she looked great! Listening to her and the time she takes to explain and allows people to express themselves….not always a joyous sound to the ears of a lawyer.

You know, someone I respect a great deal told me recently “there are two types of judges, those who are eminently ‘qualified’ and those who are eminently ‘connected.’” When you see bench officers of the calibre of those who sit in family court you realize quickly, those who are “qualified” for the most part are making the decisions. Steph Padilla is sitting in Dept. L in Van Nuys and we at DesperateExes.com are glad to visit her in more comfortable digs!

Judge Kenneth Black, ret.For all of you looking to hire a “private judge,” Ken Black is one of the best there is…one lawyer I spoke to told me that Judge Ken Black, ret. “ is hands down the best mediator in Los Angeles”. If anyone can get two sides to settle it is Judge Ken Black. Give Judge Black a call: 818-395-4520 e-mail Blackn2@aol.com

Judge Louis Meisinger is also in Van Nuys, he also has a great courtroom and it looks to be one of the larger ones. He too is very patient with those who sit before him. You know, with the eyeglasses sitting on the edge of his nose and that perfect silver hair, he looks as if he was meant to be a judge! If you saw him walking down the street you would say, “he looks like a judge.” Now not all those who sit as bench officers look like judges….it is a look, Meisinger definitely has the look.

So lets see, Santa Monica, Downtown and now Van Nuys, OMG could Long Beach be far behind?

Catching up at “The Mosk” and the new LAPD HQ

Posted by admin  Published in LAPD Threat Management Unit, Lawyers, Mediators

Ask anyone over 55 years old as to how fast time moves and they will tell you it seems to accelerate with every birthday. They come ( birthdays ) faster and faster, this is not a scientific position that I am taking here but just the way I feel. I was away from the “Mosk” for almost three weeks during the Anna Nicole Smith prelim..

We make the trip to “the Mosk” and no sooner do I look at my calendar than who do I walk into? Bob Cohen, Lawyer and his client…Bob always has that twinkle in his eye that still, even after all these years, makes me wonder what he is up to. He just left Judge Endman’s court and was sent to the “mediator,” who was not in! How does that happen?

As always the mediation room is full and it seems there are not enough chairs or tables…in general it is either empty or full of lawyers and clients trying to make sense out of this nonsense, “go and make nice…” Well, Mr. Cohen had placed his files and his brief case on a table with two chairs, soon there is one chair. Upon entering the room who do I see but Elyse Margolin and one of her clients. Elyse is looking fabulous and her client too is well dressed and wins points with me immediately when she asks, “don’t you write for DesperateExes?” Well is this not nice to meet someone who reads what you write?! I mean she is highly educated, and very well-coiffed, and she reads us!

The new LAPD HeadquartersThere were some people running around looking for the courtroom for the Justin Timberlake issue with some female stalker. Marty Singer (lawyer extraodinaire) was in the building I assume, as he represents Mr. Timberlake. I had to leave as I was going over to the new L.A.P.D. Headquarters for a tour of Threat Management Unit, my friends for many years, an incredible group of men and women with the sole purpose to help those in the public arena against those who would do harm to them. My offer to Martha DeFoe is still open: DeFoe and Nazarian………I can’t compete with “plan A.” All my best to Martha and her family and the offer stands!

Catching up on a busy week

Posted by admin  Published in Anna Nicole Smith, Mediators

What a week, I had a great lunch yesterday with divorce lawyer to the stars and beyond Ron Rale, Esq.  It was fun to see Ron outside the legal arena and not sitting in his German Meat Grinder aka Da Porsche.(Ron was Anna Nicole Smith’s attorney for many years).   Ron is one very funny fellow…well, maybe not that funny, but you run the risk of being thrown to ground and having the “pork chop” hold wrapped around your head and face if you do not at least smile at his comments…Rale is a “grappler,” honest, he loves going to the gym and grappling!

The best part of the morning was seeing Judge Ken Black, I have been a fan of his for many years.  Ken is now retired and is a “rent a judge.” Yes , when judges retire from the bench they often continue in what is a private practice of offering their services for a fee to settle cases.  Ken should charge double as you will always get much more than you paid for. While he sat on the bench he was a tough judge to go before, especially if you tried playing the divorce game.  He is just as tough as a judge for hire and will move the nonsense along rapidly.  As all of you regular readers know he is and will always be one of my favorites…he has style and panache.

Josh MankiewiczThis morning I met with one of my old friends, NBC Reporter Josh Mankiewicz, I have always loved Josh’s stories.  His voice is very distinguishable when you hear him.  I enyoy his easy but tenacious style and ability to get to the truth, or at least give the options to understanding what has happened.  We had lunch at the Smokehouse over by the studios and close to his Burbank office.  We do not do it often enough and that is what makes it so very special when we do meet.  Josh got me on DATELINE several years ago…could there be more in future, wait and see. He has some incredible stories coming up and I wont leak anything, just stay tuned.
